A recent picture taken in Wellington Harbour shows a short Sunderland flying boat

A recent picture taken in Wellington Harbour shows a short Sunderland flying boat of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and a Fokker Friendship belonging to the National Airways Corporation of New Zealand. The Sunderland a Mark 5 was built at Rochester in Kent in 1944-45. This is thought to be the oldest operational type of aircraft in the world. The first one was built in 1937. The Friendship one of 8 operated on the internal routes of New Zealand by NAC was built by the Fokker company at Schiphol Suid Amsterdam in 1961
