Beside her is Miss Elizabeth Mary Dorey, the loser ( who takes larger amount ) Two maids are short - listed to throw dice and the one with the highest score gets the cash ; another local charity fund is used for the consolation prize and because this charity has performed better in terms of earnings over the years, the runner - up gets more money than the winner.

Blessing the plough at Chichester Cathedral.
The ancient ceremony of blessing the plough took place yesterday (Plough Sunday) at Chichester Cathedral when a plough was drawn in procession from the County Hall to the Cathedral. The plough was drawn by young farmers in knee length white coats with a ploughman at the stilts. In the Cathedral the plough was placed in front of the choir screen and the Bishop, Dr bell, preached a sermon. Farmers, workers and W L A members grouped themselves round the plough and the ploughman and the WLA representative invoked the Bishop's blessing.

Madrid again under fire.
Shell that killed three, injured 15. British women MPs in danger.
This picture just received in London from Madrid, was taken by photographer in an ambulance as rebel bombs and shells rained down in the intense bombardment which the rebels are again directing on the city.
People can be seen running for their lives in the Gran Via, Madrid street, as a shell hits a building on the right. This shell killed three persons and injured 15.
The people running in the centre were caught by the explosion and badly hurt. This bombardment also endangered the lives of the Duchess of Atholl, Miss Ellen Wilkinson and other British women MPs who are visiting the battlefront.
