The Extraordinary Weybridge Track to be opened for Motor Ascots on 17 June 1907 Bird's-eye view sketched on the spot by Melton Prior The first motor track in the kingdom has been constructed by the Brooklands Automobile Racing Club near Weybridge. It is an extraordinary piece of engineering and the slopes of the curves have been so cleverly calculated that an unsteered car travelling at ninety miles an hour would run on the top of the slope with perfect safety : the analogy is that of a pea revolving in a bowl Each lap of the course measures 3? miles

Cranes and construction works can be seen as the building of the new underpass has started. It was one section of the wider Marble Arch - Park Lane - Hyde Park Corner road improvements. This was part of a scheme to ease the traffic congestion on central London roads. It was opened in 1962
