The King and Queen drove in state from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords for the opening of Parliament. Their majesties were escorted by a Captain's Escort of Household Cavalry and preceding the Royal Coach was a carriage containing the crowns. At the Victoria Tower, Westminster the king and queen were met by the great offices of state and proceeded to the Robing Room. To salute their arrival at Westminster, a troop of Royal Horse Artillery fired 41t guns from St James's Park.
Picture shows: Yeomen of the Guard, in their colourful uniforms, paraded for inspection at the Houses of Parliament for the state opening.
