When the picture of the three women and the baby around the communal pump - shared by eleven families was published in The Star in 1931, there was a public outcry and the cottages were demolished and replaced by Stepney Council's Ring House scheme

The Pan American flying boat , Clipper III landing at Southampton. The plane accomplished the first two - way Atlantic flight and arrived at Southampton from Foynes , Ireland on the completion of the journey. The crew were welcomed by government and Imperial Airway officials.
