The Extraordinary Weybridge Track to be opened for Motor Ascots on 17 June 1907
The Extraordinary Weybridge Track to be opened for Motor Ascots on 17 June 1907 Bird's-eye view sketched on the spot by Melton Prior The first motor track in the kingdom has been constructed by the Brooklands Automobile Racing Club near Weybridge. It is an extraordinary piece of engineering and the slopes of the curves have been so cleverly calculated that an unsteered car travelling at ninety miles an hour would run on the top of the slope with perfect safety : the analogy is that of a pea revolving in a bowl Each lap of the course measures 3? miles
"Where motors fly like peas in a bowl : the Wonderful sloping sides of the Motor Track at Weybridge"
Total cost (nearly): ?100, 000
Concrete track and bridges: 35, 000 cubic yards
Length road track: 3 miles
Earthwork shifted (including roads)
Width of track: 90 feet
Two bridges over River Wey: ?10, 000

Dangerous corner.....
Brands Hatch, Kent, England ; Unidentified speed car driver negotiates what appears to be a " dangerous corner " at the Brands Hatch motor circuit here today. The girl on the track is 22 year old French idol, Francoise Hardy, the innovator of the current mini - jupe ( short skirt ) craze, who is currently on location here for the movie, " Grand Prix ".
Racing sequences for the film are being made at Brands Hatch under the direction of John Frankenheimer for MGM Cinerama presentation.
