The Life of Charles Dickens
The Chalet at Gadshill Place.
Dickens' property at Gadshill Place in Rochester, Kent was divided by a road and at the consent of the local authorites he built an underground access to the shrubbery and placed a Swiss Chalet there which was presented to him by Mr Fecther in Paris. It arrived in 94 pieces and fitted together like a jigsaw.

A 20 hour blizzard has caused serious dislocation in Kent, where villages have been almost cut off

A 20 hour blizzard has caused serious dislocation in Kent, where villages have been almost cut off and roads blocked by snow drifts which are in some districts as deep as 8 feet. Many houses are completely isolated. Snowploughs and gangs of men had to go to the rescue stranded motorists.
Photo shows, sheep in the deep snow at Kingsdown on the London Folkestone Road.
