Bank teller Mr William Treacy loading pound notes into the machine when the " Express Till Service" was introduced at an Oxford Street, London branch of the National Provincial Bank today.
The machine, operating for withdrawals of up to ?50 at a time, will speed up the cashing of cheques by customers.
The amount to be paid out is set by means of the telephone type dials on left.
The machine then delivers the notes down a chute, and the teller does not have to re-count them before handing them to the customer.
Machines went into operation at six of the Banks branches today, and many others are to have them.
