The western end of Aldwych outside India House, London, presented a gay scene beneath the summer sun has nearly every Hindu in London gathered to watch the flag of the new dominion of India broken from its mast on the building. The flag which fluttered up to join the Union Jack on twin masts at the corner of India House, is of saffron, white and green with the blue wheel of Osaka, symbol of Indias ancient greatness, emblazoned in the centre.
Among personalities present for the ceremony by Mr Herbert Morrison, Mr A.V. Alexander - Minister of Defence, Lord Pethick-Lawrence and the Dean of Canterbury. They saw the flag hoisted by : Mr M.K. Vellodi - retiring High Commissioner.
Picture shows: the colourful scene as Indias new flag flies beside the Union Jack at India House today. Londoners mingle with Indians, including a naval contingent to witness the ceremony.
