Londoners had their first view of the squadron of US Army Air Force Super Fortresses
Londoners had their first view of the squadron of US Army Air Force Super Fortresses when it flew across the city on the first of two demonstration flights today. The planes, which arrived in England earlier this week, paying a goodwill and training visits to the RAF and in doing so practising improved techniques of overwater navigation. Leaving their base at Marham Airfield, Norfolk, they flew on to Chelmsford, over London to the south coast, turning at Plymouth to Bristol and Swansea, and then over Oxford and Cambridge to return to their base, at all times keeping below cloud base to enable the thousands of people to see them.
