Passing the dirigible mooring mast 1, 250 feet above street level on top of New York Citys famed Empire State Building is the worlds largest and fastest commercial airliner. The plane, the Pan American World Airways America class Clipper Flying Cloud, reaches London next Sunday, April 3, after her maiden crossing of the Atlantic. It was necessary for the 75-passenger double-decked Clipper to fly at more than 1, 500 feet to clear the top of the Empire State Building. The aircraft itself is 110 feet 4 inches long, and it its 71-ton bulk could be stood on its tail in the street the nose would reach above the 10th floor of the 102-storey skycraper. The Clipper is the civial version of the US Air Force B-50 bomber. It has a cruising speed of 340 miles an hour at 25, 000 feet. New York, USA. 01 April 1949. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
