This new picture shows part of the front and one side of this residence. Clarence House was built to the Duke of Clarence, later William IV, and was afterwards presented by Queen Victoria to her mother, the Duchess of Kent, who lived there until her death in 1861. 5 years later the Queen gave this " grace and favour" residents to her 2nd son, the Duke of Edinburgh. He was who moved to entrance to his position beneath the imposing portico which looks over the garden towards the Mall. He was succeeded as occupant of Clarence House by the Duke of Connaught, who lived there for 60 years. During the war the house was occupied by the foreign relations Department of the organisation.
