King Carol at Pilsudskis crypt.
Archbishop who opposed visit is ill.
Despite the opposition of Cardinal Sapieha, the Archbishop of KrakAow, King Carol of Romania and Crown Prince Michael, inspected Wawel Cathedral during their visit to Poland, and also pay tribute in the crypt, where lies the coffin of Marshal Pilsudski. Cardinal Sapieha was not present during the Royal visit as he is stated to be seriously ill.
Seemingly objecting to King Carols morals, Cardinal Sapieha came into conflict with the Polish government when he temporarily removed Pilsudskis coughing from its resting place and part the Cathedral to King Carol. A new door was specially cut for the King.
Photo shows, King Carol (left), leaving the crypt with President Ignacy Moscicki of Poland (centre foreground) after paying tribute to the late Marshal Pilsudski. Behind (left) is Crown Prince Michael, walking with Marshal Smigly Rydz, the Inspector General of the Polish army.
