At St Stephens Church, St Albans, this lectern, a fine specimen of 15th century
At St Stephens Church, St Albans, this lectern, a fine specimen of 15th century Flemish metal work, has been standing for over 400 years. It is claimed by the city of Edinburgh, basing its claim on the supposition that it was taken from the Abbey at Holyrood by Sir Richard Lee, an officer of the Earl of Hertford, who was entrusted by Henry VIII to destroy Edinburgh in 1544. St Stephens suggest that the lectern was the gift of the Bishop of Dunkeld, Abbot of Holyrood, early in the 16th century
