Thomas Carlyle as library weathervane.
A silhouette figure of Thomas Carlyle reading forms the weathervane of Batterseas new reference library at Altenourg gardens, Lavender Hill. The library will be opened on Monday week. The figure is that of a middle aged man with a trim beard and has been supposed by many residents to be a compliment to Mr John Burns, who has presented many hundred volumes to the library.
