This Unique building, a wonderful combination of grandeu with eccentricity, was designed by James Wyatt for William Beckford, son of ALderman Beckford of London. It was commenced in 1796 and was not finished when Nelson and teh Hamiltons were entertained here with lavish hospitality in 1801. One portion of the building was called the Nelson Turret in honour of the occassion. The octagonal tower was 278 feet high; the hall here represented measured 68 feet by 28 feet high; from floor to ceiling
