Weekend Sappers build bridge for Coronation crowds in St Jamess Park.
Eighty London Sappers belonging to the Territorial Royal Engineers are doing a rush job of bridge building in St Jamess Park over the weekend. The bridge they are building will relieve pedestrian traffic in St Jamess Park during the Coronation week, when hundreds of thousands of people will go there to see the flood lighting. It will span the lake a few yards on the Buckingham Palace side of the bridge you now used by people strolling in the park.
Photo shows lorries loaded with pontoons for the bridge lined up in the Mall.
