Jets prepare for record bid.
The RAF High-Speed Flight, led by Group Captain EM Donaldson, is awaiting favourable weather force attack on the world speed record of 606.25 mph. Mechanics have been hard at work at Tangmere Aerodrome, near Chichester, Sussex, fitting the specially prepared Rolls-Royce gas turbine engines into the Gloster meteor aircraft, which will be usefully attempt. The 3 km course off Littlehampton has been made ready, and a trial run will be made tomorrow (Wednesday). If the weather cooperates. Hot day, and onshore wind, good visibility and a high tide the conditions for which the high-speed pilots are waiting.
