Mrs Olga Collett leaves for Ascot to give first racecourse commentary by a woman.
Mrs Olga Collett left her London Home for Ascot to be the first woman to give a BBC commentary on a race meeting. Mrs Collett was chosen to describe the scenes and dresses at Gold Cup day for a womans point of view. Mrs Collett, was previously broadcast morning talks, is a staff supervisor of 650 women employees in a big London firm. If the present experiment is successful it will be repeated for subsequent similar events. Mrs Colletts husband, Squadron-Leader S. B. Collett, son of the lord Mayor of London, was killed when he crashed in flames at Hendon air display in 1934.
