Princess Pocahontas statue unveiled at Gravesend.
Gravesend, Kent: John S. Battle, a former Governer of Virginia, and Moyor of Gravesend and Mr L.W Kempster, inspect the 13-feet high, bronze statue of Pocahontas, the Red Indian Princessm which Mr Battle unveiled in the grounds of St. George's Chapel of Unity here today, in pounding rain. The statue is a gift from the people of Virginia, who revere the Princess as a saviour of the early settlers. She died here aboard a ship which was to carry her home to America, and she is buried in the chancel of the chapel. Mr Battle also planted a tree in remembrance, and so did Lord Hailsham, who last year headed a delegation to the 350th anniversary celebrations of the state.
