The King and Queen drove in state from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords for the opening of Parliament. Their majesties were escorted by a Captains Escort of Household Cavalry and preceding the Royal Coach was a carriage containing the crowns. At the Victoria Tower, Westminster the king and queen were met by the great offices of state and proceeded to the Robing Room. To salute their arrival at Westminster, a troop of Royal Horse Artillery fired 41t guns from St Jamess Park.
